ISKM 02 — Design of Information Services, Interfaces, and Interactions

Jan 12, 2025

Design of Information Services, Interfaces, and Interactions was the highlight of my first semester at KISK. It perfectly captured what I hoped to gain from this field of study and provided me with a comprehensive understanding of a wide range of topics within the discipline.

One of the course’s strongest points, in my opinion, was the inclusion of guest speakers from the industry, who shared their real-world experiences. This practical insight added significant value to the learning experience. While a large portion of the topics covered wasn’t entirely new to me—since I deal with them almost daily in my professional life—the course managed to bring fresh perspectives and expand on each subject in meaningful ways.

A particular standout for me was the lecture on integrating AI into the design process, complemented by an in-depth presentation of the tools and possibilities available. It was both inspiring and highly informative.

If I had one critique, it would be that some topics could have been explored in greater depth. While I understand the course’s aim was to provide a broad overview of design as a whole, delving deeper into speculative design and related areas could have made the course even more engaging. This is a relatively niche subject that isn’t often discussed among practicing designers, and I wasn’t familiar with it myself before taking the course.

One of the highlights was the final test, which was structured in a very practical way. It allowed me to fully apply my professional experience alongside the knowledge I had gained throughout the semester. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this course and was genuinely sad when it ended—especially since subsequent courses don’t seem to revisit many of the topics covered here.

In my view, this course is perfect for anyone seeking a quick and comprehensive introduction to the world of design. It offers value not only to beginners but also to more experienced designers who want to approach the field from fresh perspectives.
